A former fishing village turned seaside resort, Sainte-Luce lines up its beaches along a few kilometres of coast, with the Montravail forest right behind. It is also the closest of the southern holiday communes to the airport.
From the airport to Sainte-Luce
A little over twenty kilometres: 25 to 30 minutes outside rush hours from the terminal. It's the shortest drive to the touristic south; on weekdays the road is busy towards Le Lamentin in the morning and the other way in the late afternoon. The rest of the south is close by: Le Diamant, Le Marin and Sainte-Anne.
The beaches, as the town hall lists them
- Gros Raisin and Désert — water rated excellent in the 2025 health checks;
- Corps de Garde and Fond Banane — water rated good in 2025;
- Anse Mabouya, Pont Café and plage des Amoureux — the commune's other beaches.
These ratings are recalculated every season by the regional health agency: the ones quoted here are from 2025. Like most beaches in Martinique, they have no permanent lifeguard: swim with care and follow the signs.
Behind the coast: Montravail and its carved rocks
The Montravail forest, managed by the national forestry office within the regional nature park, is 25 to 35 minutes from the airport. You'll find trails, a picnic area and pre-Columbian carved rocks, listed as historic monuments since 7 November 1996.
Rum, in Sainte-Luce and next door
The former Trois-Rivières distillery can be visited in Sainte-Luce; the reception is open from 9 am to 5:30 pm and tastings until 5 pm, but the opening days are not published: a phone call before you set off saves the detour. The rum itself is distilled at La Mauny, in Rivière-Pilote, open Monday to Saturday from 9 am to 5:30 pm, except public holidays.
Which vehicle to choose
Between the village, the beaches and Montravail, a small car is enough and parks more easily. Travelling as a family, look at our 7-seaters or an SUV for the boot space.
