Le Vauclin lives from the sea: one of the island's busiest fishing ports, a stage of the Tour des Yoles Rondes, and the shallow lagoon of Pointe Faula where you can walk far from the shore. The Martinique yole has been on UNESCO's Register of Good Safeguarding Practices since 2020.
From the airport to Le Vauclin
About thirty kilometres via Le François: 35 to 45 minutes outside rush hours from the terminal to the village, and 40 to 50 minutes to Pointe Faula. The Atlantic coast continues towards Le Robert and Le François.
What a car opens up in Le Vauclin
- Pointe Faula — a lagoon sheltered by the coral reef, shallow enough to walk far from the shore; one of Martinique's reference spots for kitesurfing and windsurfing, with a UCPA centre;
- The Vauclin loop — a waymarked 6.5 km trail, 2 to 3 hours, along the coast from the UCPA car park in the Château Paille district;
- Mount Vauclin — the highest point in southern Martinique, a little over 500 metres;
- The Justin Ribac cave — dug around 1936 in the Escavaille district, a local curiosity;
- The fishing port — one of the busiest on the island, and a stage of the Tour des Yoles.
Like most beaches in Martinique, they have no permanent lifeguard: swim with care and follow the signs. As everywhere on the Atlantic side, sargassum strandings are possible: Météo-France's forecast tells you the state of the coast before you set off.
Which vehicle to choose
A small car is enough for the village, Pointe Faula and the local roads. With board gear or as a family, an SUV or a 7-seater gives you the boot space.
