Le Diamant takes its name from the 175-metre rock rising about two kilometres off the Pointe du Diamant, one of the most recognisable sights in Martinique. For a stay in the town, your car waits for you at Aimé Césaire airport: the handover is free, and Le Diamant is only a 30 to 35-minute drive. We don't deliver to accommodation: you collect the car at the airport, at our Le Lamentin agency or at the Fort-de-France cruise port.
From the airport to Le Diamant
About 20 km: 30 to 35 minutes outside rush hours. It's one of the seaside towns closest to the airport, a good base for exploring the south as well as Fort-de-France. On weekdays traffic builds around Le Lamentin in the morning and late afternoon: allow a margin on the day you fly home.
Le Diamant by car
- Grande Anse du Diamant — about three kilometres of sand facing the rock. The sea is often rough, with strong currents and powerful waves: swim with care and follow the posted instructions;
- The Anse Caffard Memorial (Cap 110) — fifteen statues by Laurent Valère, unveiled in 1998, in memory of the 1830 wreck of a slave ship;
- Morne Larcher — nearly 480 metres, a demanding hike with a view straight down onto the rock;
- Les Anses-d'Arlet and Les Trois-Îlets — further up the coast (see our Les Trois-Îlets page).
And to the south, Sainte-Anne and Le Marin make an easy beach day by car.
Which car to choose
A city car is enough for the town and the nearby coves. For Morne Larcher and family outings, a roomier model, up to 7 seats, is more comfortable. If you're not used to a manual gearbox, take an automatic car. The whole fleet: our vehicles.
